the position
Product Development Engineering Technicians work from drawings, written and oral instructions, or defined plans to execute prototype builds and testing. Assignments include testing and verification of device function, documentation of assembly procedures and test methods, and training of personnel in proper operation of tools and fixtures for pilot builds.

The ideal candidate would be a highly-skilled engineering technician with excellent mechanical aptitude who is a pragmatic problem-solver and innovator and who has a thorough understanding of the use of various tools and equipment for prototyping and testing, and the ability to work with everything from raw drawings to detailed SolidWorks models to fabricate close-tolerance parts, as well as jigs and fixtures.

key responsibilities
Support product development and engineering activities by fabricating medical device component, product and equipment prototypes and operating and maintaining equipment used to assemble prototypes.
Conduct tests required to evaluate product and automation design concepts and compile and evaluate test data to determine appropriate selection of manufacturing components, optimal processing parameters and machine design attributes. Tasks include using test equipment to quantify the quality/performance of components, sub-assemblies and finished devices.
Support product development through the assembly, modification, testing, and inspection of prototypes, product components, tool and fixture design, tooling and equipment, as well as the generation of supporting documentation.
Set-up and operate testing equipment to characterize product performance. Collect and analyze process and product testing data. Document test methods and results.
Develop and document assembly methods and related tools and fixtures. Fabricate and assemble prototype products. Inspect components and assemblies and trouble-shoot component and assembly issues. Create Work Instructions for new prototyping and testing equipment and manufacturing systems.
Act as liaison between the prototype lab and other departments. Interface with suppliers, as needed. Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies to support product development activities.

education and experience
A High School Diploma or G.E.D. and an Associate's Degree in science, technology or an engineering-related field, Technical Certification or equivalent trade school/college studies and work experience is required, as is technical training in mechanics, electronics and testing. Completion of community college, trade school or applicable apprenticeship programs is preferred. Veterans are preferred.
Must be skilled in the operation of automated production, product testing and mechanical measurement and inspection equipment. Must be able to read and understand component drawings, schematics and system design documentation, as well as perform close tolerance machining.
Must be able to read and use CAD drawings. Familiarity with SolidWorks and/or Labview is preferred. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel and Word.
Must be action-oriented with demonstrated customer focus and problem solving skills and enjoy working in a dynamic work environment with a focus on technical excellence, customer responsiveness and innovative thinking.
Must have good interpersonal skills, be able to coordinate and resolve technical problems and work well in teams, be a pragmatic problem-solver, be organized, efficient and have excellent attention to detail and drive to follow-through for completeness.
This position requires mechanical aptitude. Job assignments are complex and technical in nature and require both mechanical/technical and communication skills to be successful in meeting project objectives.
This work requires extensive standing and sitting performing testing and operating equipment. Must also have the visual acuity to examine small parts and detailed drawings and the manual dexterity to manipulate small parts and equipment.
