Student Trainee (Transportation Specialist)

This is a developmental position in the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The student trainee will develop knowledge and skills in the performance of a variety of transportation specialist functions. The incumbent will assist senior transportation specialists in performing a variety of tasks in one or more of the core transportation functions. The Student Trainee (Transportation Specialist) Pathways Intern will:
Assist higher-graded specialists in researching, analyzing, and drafting responses to questions regarding specific transportation related topics. Participate in meetings, workshops, conferences, and similar situations. Receives on-the-job training in carefully selected assignments to develop knowledge and skills in transportation management duties. Perform assigned duties in accordance with established regulations and procedures. Works closely with supervisor and higher graded employees in supporting customers' requirements for intermodal transportation and distribution services. Uses standardized transportation regulations, procedures, and operations to review movement requests for accuracy and completeness. Discrepancies will be referred to higher graded employees or the supervisor. Provides basic advice and assistance to customers and providers within established guidelines set by supervisor. Use of multiple automated transportation systems to assist other employees in the planning, coordination and management of customer's movement requirements. Uses automated transportation systems to check and verify data as requested. Assists in researching, analyzing, and drafting responses to questions regarding specific transportation related topics. Tracks data and maintains databases of varied Federal-aid performance data and drafts reports as requested. Participates in initiatives/activities as required by the Division Performance Plan to implement programs, products, processes, or technologies that contribute to the achievement of the agency's National Strategic Goals. This position has an education requirement. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. GS-4 Completion of two academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. GS-5 Completion of four academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or four academic years of pre-professional studyGS-7 Completion of one academic year of graduate level education; OR bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement as defined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook; OR five academic years of pre-professional study.Superior Academic Achievement - In the upper one-third of graduating class; OR a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0, as recorded on official transcript, or based on courses completed during final 2 years of curriculum; OR a GPA of 3.5 or higher out of 4.0, based on average of required courses completed in major or required courses in major completed during the final 2 years of curriculum. GS-9 Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Special Instructions for Foreign Education:
Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
